The Hungarian capital was formed after the merger of Buda, Óbuda and Pest in 1873. Prior to that the city was known as Pest-Buda. The famous burgundy-domed Hungarian Parliament Országház is located just across the river in Pest, on the bend between Margaret island and the Széchenyi Chain Bridge.
